An Invitation to Shared Leading and Learning
12/10/2009

Dear Owen J. Roberts’ Community

It is a great honor to write to you as Superintendent of the Owen J. Roberts School District. To be entrusted with the responsibility of educating the children of our District is indeed a privilege. I pledge to listen, learn quickly, and always act in behalf of what is best for our students.

The Superintendent’s Entry Learning Framework: An Invitation to Shared Leading and Learning, as posted on this Webpage, will guide my introduction to the District and provides opportunities to members of the community to lead and learn with me over the next six months (see: http://www.pottsmerc.com/articles/2009/12/10/news/srv0000007041039.txt). The activities that make-up the plan will be staged to support our development as a cohesive team, allow us to measure the impact of the resources and strategies we employ, and ultimately unite us around a set of common actions.

To elicit your input about the proposed framework and to suggest additional activities for us to learn together, meetings will be held on December 16 and January 5 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm in the High School Library. You will also be asked to participate in a focus group discussion. Contact Michele Rusk at 610-469-5112 or email mrusk@ojrsd.com to register. If you would like to email suggestions for activities or other comments about the Entry Learning Framework you can email them to EntryLearningFramework@ojrsd.com.

I have always believed that the key to the success of a school district is its ability to work in partnership with its parents and the community. As a resident of the District, I expect to learn firsthand the priorities you have for your child’s education and to develop relationships with you that are defined by trust and openness.

Beginning this Saturday from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, I will begin to convene “Public Office Hours” during which any citizen can stop into the administration building to simply chat, share an idea or ask a tough question. You will find a schedule for Public Office Hours posted.  To help me get to meet our families, I am hoping that you invite me to a social gathering, have me to your place of worship, or simply have me over for conversation with a few of your neighbors. This is your District and our students need us to work together. I promise you that the future you want for your children will be part of the vision we establish for OJRSD future.
