• Reading Olympics

Reading Olympics is a county-wide event that encourages and celebrates reading with students in grades 4-12.  The goal of Reading Olympics is to increase the quality and quantity of books students read for enjoyment. The Olympics are primarily a celebration of reading rather than a contest.

Teams start in 4th & 5th grades at the elementary level.  Grades 6-8 participate at the middle school level and grades 9-12 participate at the high school level.  A team is made of 8-15 students who read books from a predetermined list and practice answering questions about the plot of the books.  The book lists include fiction and nonfiction titles from a variety of reading levels.  Schools from across the county come together at one evening event to answer three rounds of questions about the books.  All participants earn ribbons based on the number of questions answered correctly by the team at the event.
