    East Vincent Elementary School News

Hello, East Vincent Elementary School Families,

I hope you enjoyed the beautiful weather today! It was a great day for the OJR Education Foundation Family Farm Fest Fundraiser, youth sports, a hike, or a bike ride. I took advantage of the sunshine and breeze to garden… one of my favorite, most relaxing things to do. I hope you had the opportunity to do something that you love to do too.

    SCHOOL-WIDE POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SYSTEM (SWPBS)

Ciao! Bonjour! Hola! Kon’nichiwa! For the past week, we celebrated “Start with Hello” and focused on Choose Kindness from Go CATS. Staff created activities for classroom meetings and beyond to highlight themes such as inclusion, empathy, and kindness. “Start with Hello” stems from the Sandy Hook Promise, which “encourages a culture of inclusion and connectedness” (https://www.sandyhookpromise.org/startwithhelloweek).

    East Vincent Elementary School News

Hello, East Vincent Elementary School Families,

Yesterday, the students and staff of East Vincent Elementary School flooded the halls with seas of red, pawprints, and cat ears to celebrate nearly one month of choosing kindness, acting respectfully, taking responsibility, and staying safe.  We had an all-school assembly, which was organized intentionally in a school-wide meeting format to echo our daily classroom meetings with the Responsive Classroom approach.

Message: School Spirit Contest – Wowser Spirit Awards

Greeting: Say Hello with Go Noodle

Sharing: Letters to Wowser about CATS

    Activity: Staff Chicken Dance

Check out a video of our assembly on the EV Twitter or EV Facebook accounts. Also, you can check out the assembly using the link: https://www.pscp.tv/w/1ynJOYqPENvKR?t=11m43s.

    a

    a

CAPTION: Students wrote letters to WOWSER to tell him how students and staff have demonstrated one of the Go CATS expectations. Wowser read every single letter!

    SCHOOL-WIDE POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SYSTEM (SWPBS)

The fourth week included a consistent focus on Go CATS, specifically Act Respectfully and Choose Kindness. Students (and staff) who were wow-ing us with Acting Respectfully and Choosing Kindness earned Cat Cash, which can be used towards classroom-specific and whole-school rewards.

The EV SWPBS Core Team participated in another day of training at Chester County Intermediate Unit with our SWPBS facilitator. We discussed “glows and grows” (celebrations and growth opportunities) from our first few weeks of SWPBS and solved any of our grows such as changing bathroom voices to 0-1 instead of 2… the bathrooms were sounding more like a 4!!!! We also continued our SWPBS plans, including what to do when a student is not following expectations and standardizing our responses with flow charts, definitions, data collection, and responses.

    a

An interesting concept that was shared from a PATTAN (Pennsylvania Training and Technical Assistance Network) facilitator was the idea of discipline and punishment. Here is an article that he shared with me that may be of interest to you: https://www.parentingforbrain.com/discipline-vs-punishment/.

Our students and staff have special activities planned including school-wide posters, classroom meeting activities, and more. East Vincent Elementary School News

Hello, East Vincent Elementary School Families,

Thank you to the many families who attended one or more of our three Open House (aka Back to School Nights) at EV. I know our staff was excited to share the plans for your children this year and the endless reasons why we love EV!

Kudos to our EV Football Social chairs and the PTA for coordinating a wildly successful football social yesterday. We had over 200 attendees WOW-ing us with their spirit.

    SCHOOL-WIDE ASSEMBLY

Speaking of spirit, this week we have our first school-wide assembly on Friday, September 21. The assembly is meant to highlight all of the ways we have WOW-ed the East Vincent community with Go CATS! Students and staff are encouraged to wear their favorite EV spirit gear, including red clothing, hats, hair, and even cat accessories! Think Pep Rally!

    ASSEMBLY CONTESTS:

    1. Students may submit a letter to WOWSER the EV Wildcat to tell him how students and staff have demonstrated one of the Go CATS expectations: Choose Kindness, Act Respectfully, Take Responsibility, or Stay Safe. Ms. Seeley will accept all letters through the end of the school day on Wednesday, September 19. The chosen letters will be read by the winning students during the assembly.

    2. Students will vote on a classmate who demonstrates the most school spirit. The students with the most votes will be chosen by the school as the most school spirited and their classes will keep the WOWSER spirit "trophies" until the next assembly.

    SCHOOL-WIDE POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SYSTEM (SWPBS)

The third week included a consistent focus on Go CATS, specifically Take Responsibility and Act Respectfully. Students (and staff) who were wow-ing us with Taking Responsibility and Acting Respectfully earned Cat Cash, which can be used towards classroom-specific and whole-school rewards. Learn more about Go CATS! and SWPBS from your child, your child’s teacher, the EV webpage, EV social media accounts, and by visiting our SWPBS webpage at CLICK HERE. a

CAPTION: Fourth-grade students share respectful things they can say to others.

Stay tuned for the last focus expectation from Go CATS!: Choose Kindness

SEPTEMBER CAT CASH – WHOLE-SCHOOL REWARDS

An ongoing monthly incentive beginning in September: Extra Recess for 25 Cat Cash on the last Friday of every month this year! The extra recess will last 15 minutes.

September (Vote): This week, students may use their Cat Cash to vote for the song teachers will dance to at our school-wide kickoff assembly, which takes place on Friday, September 21! Song choices include YMCA, Chicken Dance, Hokey Pokey, Cupid Shuffle, Sunshine in my Pocket, Happy. Boxes for voting will be available on a table in the main lobby, and reminder announcements will be made.

    SWPBS AND CONSEQUENCES

School-wide POSITIVE behavior systems focus on the POSITIVE; however, there are consequences for demonstrating unexpected behaviors that go beyond teaching, redirecting, ignoring, noticing students who are meeting expectations and reteaching.

A few consequences that have occurred at EV already include a loss of football play at recess due to multiple injuries and unsafe behavior. Some students liken recess football to the NFL, so we have to ban recess football for now (way too rough despite active adult supervision and multiple reminders). Please do not allow your child to bring a football to school.

Other consequences have included warnings, detentions, loss of privileges, in-school, out-of-school, and bus suspensions, and parent conferences. Please visit our Elementary Student/Parent Handbook link on our EV webpage if you’d like to learn more about behaviors and consequences: CLICK HERE. Student discipline (District Policy #218) starts on page 25.

    East Vincent Elementary School News

Hello, East Vincent Elementary School Families,

You are receiving a second copy of this week’s Skylert. I tried to be fancy with a template, and I failed miserably between the compatibility with our webpage/social media and the HTML language in an e-mail. Going back to keeping it simple :)

STARTING THE YEAR ON THE RIGHT PAW

The first week at East Vincent Elementary School was filled with smiling students, staff, and volunteers. The focus of the week was establishing the school-wide positive behavior system (SWPBS). Everyone learned about Go CATS! and attended especially to “S” which is “Stay Safe.” Students (and staff) who were wow-ing us with Staying Safe earned Cat Cash, which can be used towards classroom-specific and whole-school rewards. Learn more about Go CATS! and SWPBS from. Your child, your child’s teacher, the EV webpage, EV social media accounts, and at the Open Houses and September PTA meetings on Tuesday, September 11.

Stay tuned for the next focus expectation from Go CATS!: Take Responsibility

    Student Portfolio: SeeSaw

Parent Communications: Skylert, webpages, Twitter, Remind app
