    YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID TRAINING FOR FREE

    As a Youth Mental Health First Aid Trainer, Mr. Bentman who is the Principal of North Coventry Elementary School will be holding a training in October. More information is below. If you are interested in taking this FREE training please email me directly at bbentman@ojrsd.com.  Spots are limited. 

     

    What: Youth Mental Health First Aid Training

    When: October 24 and 25 (Must attend both to be certified)

    Time: 4:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

    Where: East Vincent Elementary School Innovation Center

     

    Topic: Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to help adolescents who are experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis. Youth Mental Health First Aid is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD), and eating disorders.

    HOT CHOCOLATE RUN101

    On Saturday, December 1, come on out to run the 5K or walk the 1 mile with your mittens, leg warmers, and hats and warm up at the conclusion of the race with a sweet treat of hot chocolate and other delights waiting for you!  The majority of the course is on the campus, so not too much incline.  (The race course is attached from previous years; however, all runners start on the race track and end at the top of the stadium driveway-reversed).

    We will have a DJ playing the best popular music out there, face-painting, dancing, holiday-inspired games for the kids, and prizes!  Be sure to encourage the students to come out for some good ‘ol competition and fitness fun while they are running.  The elementary running groups should be starting up soon and we love the participation of the students! 

     

    The registration deadline for the early bird discount is November 10thThis ensures a long sleeve shirt for the day of the run.  Please be sure to register online through Run Signup (see below for link) OR drop off the paper registration to Chester County Running Store OR you may also forward your registration and payment to Meg Wrubel at the HS.  Online payment is by credit card and paper format is check or cash.  We also gladly accept walk-in registrations on the morning of the race.  All proceeds benefit the OJRHS Best Buddies Club and the Roberts Education Foundation.

    VETERANS APPRECIATION BREAKFAST

    Greetings-

    I would like to take this opportunity to inform you that I will be holding my Annual “Veterans Appreciation Breakfast" on Saturday, October 27, 2018, from 8am-10am
    , at the Sunnybrook Ballroom: 50 Sunnybrook Rd., Pottstown, PA 19464.


    If you or a member of your family served in the U.S. Armed Forces, we want to thank you for your service.  Please join us for a patriotic celebration featuring a breakfast, a keynote speaker and informational brochures on various Veterans Affairs benefits.  For additional information or to register for the event, please contact my office at 610-831-8830.  Due to the capacity of the building, only those veterans who have pre-registered will be admitted. The registration deadline is October 19, 2018 – seating is limited.  Further details are attached.

    DEADLINE EXTENDED TO OCTOBER 31, 2018!

     

     

     

    In honor of GIANT celebrating its 95th year, we are asking students to draw what they think their local GIANT will look like 95 years from now. All participating schools will earn A+ School Rewards points, and the winning student will have their artwork featured at their local GIANT!

     

     

     

    CONTEST INFORMATION:

    Founded in 1923 as the Carlisle Meat Market, GIANT Food Stores has grown to include more than 170 stores serving families in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia.

     

    Through this expansion and evolution of services such as Peapod online ordering, the company has proudly remained committed to offering fresh, quality meats, produce, and grocery items to its customers. They have also continued to stay connected to their neighborhood roots, which include our community schools.

     

    Giant wants to thank participating schools for your continued loyalty and support and for making each school year a huge success.

     

    ENTRY GUIDELINES:

     

    Contest entry period:

    A+ REGISTERED schools can submit their students' drawings from August 27th thru October 31st.

     

    Who can enter:

    Students in 3rd through 5th grade from all A+ REGISTERED schools are eligible to participate.

     

    How to enter:

    Participants should create an entry on an 8.5 x 11-inch sheet of unlined, white paper.

     

    Participants can use any standard drawing medium (ie. coloring pencils, crayons, watercolors, or markers). Digital tools to create the artwork are not allowed.

     

    All entries must be signed on the back by the entrant's parent/guardian. By signing, parents/guardians grant GIANT Food Stores the right to use such entrant's name and publication of artwork in all media for advertising and promotional purposes, as well as in store, on the website or for future contests, if applicable.

     

    Name, age and grade of participant, as well as the school's name, A+ School Rewards Program ID number, and address of school must also be clearly labeled on the back of the entry. Please also include the location of your closest GIANT store.

     

    Maximum three (3) entries per school can be submitted.

     

    Submissions will not be returned or acknowledged. Proof of submission is not considered proof of delivery to or receipt of such entry. GIANT Food Stores shall have no liability for any submission that is lost, intercepted, or not received by GIANT Food Stores for any reason.

     

    Prizes:

    • All registered schools that participate will receive a total of 5,000 A+ School Rewards points (points will be added to school's November totals that will be posted on or about December 10th).
    • Winners will be randomly selected.
    • Winner's school will receive an additional 5,000 A+ School Rewards points for a total of 10,000 points (points will be added to school's November totals that will be posted on or about December 10th).
    • Winner will have artwork featured at the local GIANT Food Store in November and December.
    • Winner's school will be notified within one week after contest entry period.
