    East Vincent Elementary School News

Hello, East Vincent Elementary School Families,

Since it is a short week, you are receiving this Skylert as a combination for last week and this week. The next EV Skylert will be sent on Saturday, December 1.

From our EV family to yours, may you have a happy, healthy, and peaceful Thanksgiving holiday. We are thankful for your partnership.

    SCHOOL-WIDE POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SYSTEM (SWPBS)

Today, we celebrated Go CATS with our second school-wide classroom meeting assembly. Students chosen as 6th Grade CATS Ambassadors coordinated and facilitated the assembly, which included message, greeting, sharing, and activity components from the Responsive Classroom approach. We also recognized winners from our PTA Walk-a-Thon event. Check out our assembly on the EV Facebook page or visit our SWPBS webpage at https://www.ojrsd.com/Page/8965.

FUTURE READY INDEX – PA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION

    From website futurereadypa.org

The Future Ready PA Index is a collection of school progress measures related to school and student success. The Index includes a range of assessment, on-track, and readiness indicators, to more accurately report student learning, growth, and success in the classroom and beyond.

Future Ready PA Index contains the most recent data available in the 2017-2018 school year.

Visit futurereadypa.org to learn more about OJRSD and EV. I shared Future Ready Index information for the School Share portion of the November PTA General Membership meeting. I plan share Future Ready Index Information during Coffee Klatches and via a Facebook Live segment.

    FROM THE EV MAIN OFFICE

Here are two friendly reminders about absences and late arrivals:

    ABSENCES

Students are expected to attend school on a daily basis. If your child is ill, please call our attendance hotline at (610) 469-5688. This is an automated attendance-only telephone line, so it is accessible 24hours a day. The number is posted on the EV webpage for future reference. Some families find it helpful to add the number to their cell phone contact list. If you forget to call the attendance line, the school will be contacting you to verify your child's absence. If we are unable to reach a parent/guardian or there is no note sent to school within 3 school days after the absence, the day will be recorded as unlawful.

    LATENESSES

We understand that life sometimes happens and occasionally it is unavoidable to get your child to school by the start of the school day. However, habitual lateness not only impacts attendance, but it impacts your child's academic success. Children arriving habitually late tend to struggle to get themselves organized and settle in to routines of the day. IMPORTANT - Cumulative lateness will be counted as illegal absences and subject to the district's attendance policies including summary citations. Students who arrive late must be accompanied by an adult and check-in to the main office.

    WELCOME NEW STAFF TO EV

We welcome, welcomed, or will welcome some new staff to EV.

Ms. Betsy Schwade is our World Language teacher for students in grade 6. She teaches students one day per five-day cycle rotation as a special area subject. She comes to us with varied experiences including 11 years of teaching French and 4 years of teaching Special Education.  She has a Bachelor’s degree in French from Mary Baldwin College (VA) and a Masters of Education in Special Education from Arcadia University.  She lives in Collegeville with her husband and two sons.

Ms. LaShana Miranda is our mental health counselor. She joins us from Pediatric Therapeutic Services (PTS) and works with select individual and student groups once per week. Ms. Miranda also consults with staff about preventions and interventions for student behavior. She has two sons and one daughter.

Mr. Mike Gulla will be our new maintenance foreman. He will join us in the next week or so and shadow our current maintenance foreman, Mr. Colin for the month of December. Mr. Gulla joins us from Daniel Boone School District where he served in a similar position for the past four years. He is eager to start and already toured our building and grounds.

Stay tuned for upcoming paraprofessional spotlights. We rely on our paraprofessionals, and they are the backbone of the work we do on a daily basis. Your child may reference a particular para as an adult on duty or mention how much a para helped them learn. We’d like for you to put a face with a name and learn more about our paraprofessionals.

    K Kids: Toys for Tots

K Kids is collecting unwrapped gifts from now until December 11. Donations will be picked-up by the Salvation Army. Drop-off boxes are located in our front lobby. Thank you for your support. If you have any questions, please contact Miss Hoffmhoff@ojrsd.com.

    SURVEY TIME!

At EV, I solicit feedback from families formally three times per year. Please consider sharing your thoughts with me via a Google Form:https://goo.gl/forms/wma0cXhOtNjBjXsg2. The form is live from November 20-November 30. While I ask for your e-mail address to contact you if needed, responses are confidential. I use your feedback to improve and enhance your experiences at EV.

    COFFEE KLATCHES ARE HERE

Drop by and enjoy a coffee and chat “Coffee Klatch” with Ms. Seeley during the week of December 3. Visit our webpage calendar for dates and times.  Coffee will be provided.  This is a BYOM event (Bring Your Own Mug) event. The purpose of the coffee klatch format is to allow families and me to dialogue casually about positives, improvements, ideas, and concerns as they relate to EVES.  There is no agenda, and the chat is meant to be informal. Please call Mrs. Liss at 610-469-5713 to indicate the date/time when you’d like to enjoy a coffee and chat.

    NOVEMBER PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES REMINDER

Parent-teacher conferences sign-up is available on Skyward starting on November 5 at 9:00 a.m.

As a school district, we plan specific days within the school calendar for conferences to be held as we believe it is important to communicate with families.  The fall conferences will be scheduled for November 19-20 from 2:05-8:00 PM with additional morning hours provided for Kindergarten parents.   Phone conferences are a possibility on these days, as some families may have difficulty scheduling time to leave work/commitments to travel to school.

Grade 1-6 students will report to school on November 19 and 20 from 8:30-11:50 a.m.

AM Kindergarten students will attend school on November 19.  (No PM Class)

PM Kindergarten students will attend school on November 20. (No AM Class)

Please note:  Kindergarten students may ride their assigned bus home at 11:50 AM or be dismissed at the regular 11:15 AM morning pick-up time.  Parents will need to notify their child’s teacher in advance with their preference.

Students in grades K-4 are scheduled for 20-minute conferences with the homeroom teacher, grades 5 and 6 student conferences are 10-minutes, and special area teacher conferences are up to 15 minutes (to provide adequate time to travel between rooms).  In Grades 5 and 6, one teacher can provide the data for all core subjects.  To meet specifically with the ELA and/or math teacher, schedule the appointment with the appropriate teacher(s).

For those families unable to schedule online, letters were sent home. Check last week’s Skylert for directions to sign-up for fall conferences.
