Reading: We continue to be engrossed in reading nonfiction texts, and discussing the text features. We will be finding and thinking about key words when we are reading, and how this helps us as readers to get us talking about what we've read. We will also be working on reading aloud like experts.
Phonics: We will be working on hearing all the way across words and putting a vowel in each syllable. We will also be performing some karate! No worries, just chopping up words not wood, to read them part by part. We'll also be looking at our snap words to review what we know and what we need to practice.
Writing: We will be beginning Bend II of our Nonfiction Unit, where we will see how our nonfiction writers can write chapter books! Our writers will be developing a table of contents, and planning and writing chapters. We will also work on adding details so that our readers can picture what's being taught. We will also continue to look at mentor texts to see the different types of teaching that their chapters contiain, i.e. How-to-writing, persuasive writing and stories. We will continue to work on handwriting, as well.
Math: We will begin Unit 5 Place Value and Comparisons on January 6th. Please continue to have your child practice explaining their mathematical thinking to you and through writing.
Social Studies: We will continue learning about historical artifacts.
