Reading: Next week readers will remember to slow down to break up long words. Our readers are moving into harder books, so they'll need to be reminded to slow down and take the harder words, part-by-part. Then they will use words they already know to solve words. They'll learn to ask themselves, "Do I know how to read or write a word that looks like this one?"
Phonics: Next week we'll be using OU and OW to learn new snap words. We will be looking at a shared poem and a story that will include some of these words. We'll then look at how how the vowel team OW can make more than one sound.
Writing: We are in our last week of our nonfiction teaching books! We will finalize the books by redoing our Table of Contents to include the Introduction and Conclusion, and creating a cover page. Lastly, our writers will be showing all that they've learned by completeing a Post On-Demand teaching book, about a topic of their choosing. Talk with them at home about a possible topic that they can write about.
Math: Next week we will be continuing Unit 6. Student's will make sense of, and solve a multistep number story, explore the idea of equivalence using addition and subtraction facts, and answer more riddles about place value. Students will also be introduced to the flat, which represents 100.
Social Studies: We continue Historical Figures, and Places unit. This past week we learned about Abraham Lincoln.
