The Owen J. Roberts School District
Superintendent Search Update
Thursday, August 10, 2017
The planning and preparation stages of the superintendent search process are well underway! The timeline for the search has been established. The position is being advertised throughout the commonwealth and in surrounding states.
As a result of recruitment and advertising efforts applications have already started to be received and we now have nearly a dozen candidates who have applied for the position. Deadline for applications is September 30. The Board will begin to screen applications at the end of September and begin to interview the most highly qualified candidates in early October.
In addition, a series of internal and external focus groups are in the process of being scheduled for mid-September. Focus groups will be scheduled with staff, parents, students and the community at large. Details regarding locations, times, and dates will be announced in the near future.
At the focus groups, participants will be asked to address the following four statements:
1. Identify the qualities of a superior school leader.
2. Identify the strengths and skills essential for Owen J. Roberts’ next superintendent to demonstrate.
3. Identify key issues facing the district in the next five years.
4. Identify obstacles to student achievement and strategies to overcome those obstacles.
From the focus groups, the Board will develop a candidate profile and a set of interview questions that center on the needs and challenges facing the District in the next five years.
The Board of School Directors is on target to have the search process completed by late fall in order to have a superintendent who can assume his or her responsibilities at Owen J. Roberts in December 2017 or as soon as possible.

Dear OJRSD Parents, Students, Staff and Community:
We are pleased to announce that the search for the next superintendent of schools for Owen J. Roberts School District is underway! As you may be aware, the Board of School Directors approved the contract with the Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) to conduct the superintendent search at a special meeting held on Monday, July 10.
We have met with the CCIU search team, headed by CCIU Executive Director Dr. Joseph J. O’Brien, and we will begin immediately to actively advertise and recruit for the position throughout the commonwealth and the tristate area.
Integral to the process will be communication with you, our district stakeholders. The Board will provide bi-weekly updates on the search’s progress on the district’s website, email news listservs and social media.
In addition to providing information, the Board will also be seeking our stakeholders’ input by conducting a series of focus groups throughout the late summer and early fall. From the focus groups, the Board will develop a candidate profile and an array of interview questions that center on the needs and challenges facing our district as identified by you, our stakeholders.
Information regarding focus group dates, times and locations will be published on the website and communicated through the District’s regular communication channels in the near future.
The Board of School Directors hopes to have the search process completed by late fall/early winter in order to have a superintendent who can assume his or her responsibilities at Owen J. Roberts School District on or as close to January 1, 2018 as possible. We realize that this is a very aggressive timeline but we are hopeful that we will be able to start the new year with our next superintendent in place.
We look forward to working with the entire OJRSD community to bring an outstanding educational leader to serve as the district’s next superintendent of schools.
The Owen J. Roberts Board of School Directors
