    Dear Parents/Guardians:

To ensure continuous improvement for all students, several types of assessment tests are given throughout the year. These assessments serve as valuable tools for planning instruction, developing curriculum and in-service training of teachers, as well as informing the public about student achievement.

The Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) is used by the state to rate each school’s progress. All school districts throughout Pennsylvania administer the PSSA during a very specific testing time frame which begins on April 9, 2018.  Detailed testing schedules have been established in each of our school buildings. Below is a chart which demonstrates the grades, subjects, and timing of the PSSA’s:

    Subject

    Grades tested

    State testing window

    English Language Arts

The Owen J. Roberts School District recognizes the importance of regular school attendance for a successful learning experience. We are extremely proud of our students’ attendance records and ask that parents pay special attention to prompt, uninterrupted student attendance during the PSSA testing period.

Parents may help their children be ready for testing by encouraging them to get plenty of sleep the night before and providing them with a good breakfast on the mornings of the assessment.  Also, parents can reassure children that the assessment gives them an opportunity to demonstrate their learning and helps teachers plan the best possible instruction for them.

Parents may expect individual PSSA reports to be mailed to students’ homes in September. Additional information about the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment is available online at www.education.pa.gov.

    Sincerely,

    Kathryn L. Soeder, Ed.D.

    Assistant Superintendent
