    East Vincent Elementary School News

     

    Hello, East Vincent Elementary School Families,

     

    This time next week, students will have half days of school on Monday and Tuesday. Students in grades 1-6 dismiss at 11:50. AM kindergarten students attend on Monday only from 8:30-11:15. PM kindergarten students attend on Tuesday only from 8:30-11:15. We hope to see all of our families during the conference sessions.

     

    SCHOOL-WIDE POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SYSTEM (SWPBS)

    Many thanks to our families who donated items for our calm down corners. We’re looking for vinyl bean bag chairs, bound carpet squares, visual timers (not noise making timers), plastic calming jars (see Pinterest), stress balls, and plastic storage containers.

     

    STAFF HALLOWEEN CONTEST WINNERS

    Many thanks to our families who donated gift cards for our Halloween Costume Contest winners. The winners are #JustKeepSwimming. Congratulations to our winning team and all of the teams for their creative entries. Thank you to our EV community for voting on Facebook or Twitter.     NOVEMBER PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES REMINDER

    Parent-teacher conferences sign-up is available on Skyward until Tuesday, November 13 at 12:00 p.m. If you forget to sign-up for a conference, please contact your child’s teacher directly.

     

    SNACK CLOSET SNACKS NEEDED

     

    We provide free snacks to our students who join us for breakfast each day.  The students, who would otherwise not have a snack, eat the free snack during the class snack time.  We accept snack donations to keep in our snack closet for this purpose. Please consider donating a box of snacks for our snack distribution.  Donations can be brought to the EV Main Office.

    #WE LOVE OUR EV TEACHERS & STAFF!!

    As Parent/Teacher Conferences are soon upon us, the EV PTA would like to supply our annual potluck lunch of Soups and Stews for the staff Monday, November 19th, 2018.  We are asking for volunteers to sign-up to purchase, supply, cook, and drop-off a portion of the meal for that day.  We will need to supply food for about 70 plus staff.

    OPERATION GRATITUDE 

     

    Thank you EV families for the pounds and pounds of candy! It is a HUGELY SUCCESSFUL OPERATION GRATITUDE The candy monster was overflowing 3 times!! 

     

    We delivered all the candies and our OJRHS JROTC program will ship all the candy to US soldiers along with the kids’ beautiful cards and pictures!

    East Vincent Elementary School News

     

    Hello, East Vincent Elementary School Families,

     

    We had a spooktacular week! Many thanks to our parent volunteers, parent party supply donors, office, custodial, and security staff, and our staff and students for another amazing day of Halloween festivities, including the parade and parties. Remember to check our Facebook page for the live parade video.

     

    SCHOOL-WIDE POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SYSTEM (SWPBS)

    On Tuesday, EV faculty will participate in professional development opportunities related to our School-Wide Positive Behavior System and Responsive Classroom. Some of the topics include teaching coping skills to students, practicing self-care for adults, creating calm down corners in all classrooms, and responding to students who demonstrate disruptive or disrespectful behaviors.

    If you have items that would work well for our calm down corners, feel free to send them to school (attn: Ms. Seeley).     Our next safety drill is planned for the week of Thanksgiving.

     

    STAFF HALLOWEEN CONTEST REMINDER

    We have nine team entries for the second annual EV Staff Halloween Costume Contest. Teams will earn 1 point for each like on Twitter and 5 points for each retweet on Twitter. Teams will earn 1 point for each like on Facebook and 5 points for each share on Facebook. All likes, shares, and retweets are counted from the original posts on the EV Facebook and Twitter pages only. The contest runs from the time of posting on 10/31 until 11/9 at 7:00 p.m. Winners will be announced on November 12. Winners earn a trophy and prize(s)… And bragging rights.

    LOST AND FOUND

    We have tables set in the main lobby with lost and found items. Stop by our Fall Treats with Families event on Wednesday or Thursday and check out the tables. Please remember to label all of your child’s clothing and items for a quick return. Many thanks to Ms. Ada for organizing our lost and found.

    NOVEMBER PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES REMINDER

    Parent-teacher conferences sign-up is available on Skyward starting on November 5 at 9:00 a.m.

    As a school district, we plan specific days within the school calendar for conferences to be held as we believe it is important to communicate with families.  The fall conferences will be scheduled for November 19-20 from 2:05-8:00 PM with additional morning hours provided for Kindergarten parents.   Phone conferences are a possibility on these days, as some families may have difficulty scheduling time to leave work/commitments to travel to school.

    Grade 1-6 students will report to school on November 19 and 20 from 8:30-11:50 a.m.

    AM Kindergarten students will attend school on November 19.  (No PM Class)

    PM Kindergarten students will attend school on November 20. (No AM Class)

    Please note:  Kindergarten students may ride their assigned bus home at 11:50 AM or be dismissed at the regular 11:15 AM morning pick-up time.  Parents will need to notify their child’s teacher in advance with their preference.

    Students in grades K-4 are scheduled for 20-minute conferences with the homeroom teacher, grades 5 and 6 student conferences are 10-minutes, and special area teacher conferences are up to 15 minutes (to provide adequate time to travel between rooms).  In Grades 5 and 6, one teacher can provide the data for all core subjects.  To meet specifically with the ELA and/or math teacher, schedule the appointment with the appropriate teacher(s).

    For those families unable to schedule online, letters were sent home. Check last week’s Skylert for directions to sign-up for fall conferences.

    WALKATHON SUPPORT   

    There is still time to donate!  If you didn't have a chance to sponsor your student for the walkathon, donations are still being accepted and will be credited to your student. Prizes are partly based on donation amounts - although all students have at least one chance to win a prize!  Prizes will be awarded in late November.  See our website for more info:  EV Walkathon Info

     

    DONATIONS NEEDED 

    Thank you for the donations that have been shared.  We are still short quite a few decks of cards and books. What is needed:  Our teachers are in need of grades 1-6 level books (new) and decks of cards (new) for the students.  Would you be willing to donate towards this cause? This week's book fair will provide a chance to purchase a book to donate.

    WHAT IS STILL NEEDED:

    • 70 decks of cards (new)- (15 books already donated) 
    • 35 books (new)- a mix of levels 1st-6th grade -15 decks of cards already donated

    If you're curious about the reading level of a particular book, please visit Scholastic Book Wizard and type in the book title in the search bar at the top of the page.  

    Another option is to make a monetary donation using PTA's pay pal (please designate the donation for the books/cards donation program).  East Vincent PTA Pay Pal

     

    Donations are needed by November 9. Donations will be collected in a designated box in the front office.

     

    OPERATION GRATITUDE

    Wondering what to do with all of that Halloween candy?  How about donating it to EV's candy monster?!!  In partnership with our own high school JROTC program, candy will be boxed and shipped to our U.S. soldiers!  Send in/bring in your candy and fill the candy monster! Students are encouraged to send cards/drawings to the soldiers with the candies to appreciate what they are doing.

    BOOK FAIR

    It's Book Fair time of year!

    Nov. 5-9, 8:30 am-3 pm AND Nov. 7-8, 5:30-7:30 pm

    *The school store will be closed during the book fair and will be open on Tuesday and Thursday following the book fair.
