• Dear Parents/Guardians,

The new school year is launched and we begin the joy of music making. Students have begun reviewing the basics, such as posture, left hand position, bow hold, scales, positions and repertoire for the winter and spring concerts.

Evidence continues to focus on the arts (music) as a vital component in the positive growth of every child. Based on extended studies we now know it is the very process of learning music that develops the artistic mind and brings forth the creative potential in all young people. For this reason, I must emphasize the importance of your role in helping the individual members to fulfill their musical responsibility and commitment to the orchestra by encouraging at-home practice -- 100% attendance, promptness, respect and courtesy at all times.

Finally, I encourage you to be active in the “OMPO” (Orchestra Music Parents Organization) to ensure a wonderful experience for these talented students. The joy of music making offers many opportunities and can have a great impact on the lives of the orchestra members.

It is a privilege to have your children in orchestra. Thank you for your support of the orchestra! You play an important role as an orchestra parent.

    Sincerely,

    Martin Prescod

    Orchestra Director
