Superintendent Search Update

Friday, September 29, 2017

The Board is pleased to announce that the number of candidates seeking to be the next superintendent of the Owen J. Roberts School District has grown to 27 applicants. The deadline for applications is September 30.

In preparation for selecting the candidates, the board reviewed stakeholder input from the 17 focus groups conducted during the month of September and is now selecting interview questions and developing a candidate profile based on participant feedback.

Simultaneously, the Board is screening applicants and selecting those who best match the criteria for first-round interviews. At the conclusion of first-round interviews, the board will select the candidates to advance to second-round interviews. First and second round interviews will be conducting during the month of October.

Based on the search progress so far and the number of applicants to date, the Board hopes to have the search process completed in late fall.

The Board continues to be extremely appreciative of the staff and community’s input and support during this very important process, and would like to thank all of those who attended the focus groups or who provided feedback via email.

At the focus groups, participants were asked to address the following four statements:

  1. Identify the qualities of a superior school leader.
  2. Identify the strengths and skills essential for Owen J. Robert’s next superintendent to demonstrate.
  3. Identify key issues facing the district in the next five years.
  4. Identify obstacles to student achievement and strategies to overcome those obstacles.

Parents, staff, students and residents who were unable to attend the focus groups but who would like to provide feedback are asked to email OJRSDSuptSearch@cciu.org with their response to the four prompts in the above paragraph.

July 12, 2017

Dear OJRSD Families,

We are pleased to announce that the search for the next Superintendent of Schools for Owen J. Roberts School District is underway!  As you may be aware, the Board approved the contract with the Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) to conduct the superintendent search at a special meeting held on Monday, July 10, 2017.

We have met with the CCIU search team, headed by CCIU Executive Director Dr. Joseph J. O’Brien, and we will begin immediately to actively advertise and recruit for the position throughout the Commonwealth and the tri-state area.

Integral to the process will be communication with you, our district stakeholders.  The Board will provide bi-weekly updates on the search’s progress on the district’s website, Skylert's and social media.

In addition to providing information, the Board will also be seeking our stakeholders’ input by conducting a series of focus groups throughout the late summer and early fall. From the focus groups, the Board will develop a candidate profile and an array of interview questions that center on the needs and challenges facing our district as identified by you, our stakeholders.

Information regarding focus group dates, times and locations will be published on the website and communicated through the District’s regular communication channels in the near future.

The Board of School Directors hopes to have the search process completed by late fall/early winter in order to have a superintendent who can assume his or her responsibilities at Owen J. Roberts School District on or as close to January 1, 2018 as possible. We realize that this is a very aggressive timeline but we are hopeful that we will be able to start the new year with our next superintendent in place.

We look forward to working with the entire OJRSD community to bring an outstanding educational leader to serve as the district’s next superintendent of schools.

Sincerely,

The Owen J. Roberts Board of School Directors
