Laura is the Librarian at West Vincent Elementary and has worked in our district for almost 18 years. Here's what a few of the staff members around the district had to say about Laura that earned her the employee of the month:
"Laura does so much for the school, employees and students. She is in charge of the Sunshine committee, Reading Olympics, Employee workout and so much more. She never asks for anything back from anyone just what can she do for others."
"Laura donates so much of her time to WV. She leads our Sunshine Committee, is always more than happy to coordinate books from the library for any lessons, and is a wonderful friend! She is such an important member of the WV family, and our students love her!"
"The library at West Vincent is the heart of the school, thanks to Laura Vanemon. She has worked tirelessly to establish a space that welcomes students and staff to gather and embrace literature. Laura prides herself in fostering a love for books and reading with students. It is evident as soon as you walk into the WV library. Books are lovingly selected for display and rotated frequently to capture students' attention. Holidays, cultural and current events are also displayed to excite students to read more about various topics. Laura has collected additional STEAM materials to place around the library to encourage students to stay and explore. LEGOs, puzzles and art activities are just a few of the materials she puts out for keeping all students interested in coming to the library. Laura carefully prunes the school's collection of books as interests change. This keeps kids coming back for the latest reads. Outside of the library, Laura initiates conversations with staff offering her support with classroom learning. She reviews each grade levels' curriculum and preemptively checks out books for classroom teachers to utilize. When not attending to the demands of being a full time special area teacher and managing over 10,000 books Laura coordinates the Sunshine Committee. She has made it her mission to build WV's staff camaraderie. Laura has organized monthly staff activities and our holiday party for years. Her committee also supports staff with cards and small gifts recognizing life events. Laura's efforts with the Sunshine Committee has strengthened the bonds between co-workers West Vincent. We are so fortunate to her Laura Vanemon as our colleague and friend."
"Besides being a fantastic librarian and teacher, Laura is our Sunshine Queen!...She has brought so much joy to the West Vincent staff. Laura keeps the moral up by knowing just what is needed to spread happiness and bring smiles to the WV teachers, paraprofessionals, custodians and food service workers. Thank you Laura!"
