Welcome to 5th Grade

  • Dear Parents and Students,

         Welcome to fifth grade!  My name is Patty Janda, and I am starting my seventeenth year teaching fifth grade in the Owen J Roberts School District.  We have a busy but fun year ahead!  I teach mathematics, science, and social studies, partnered with Mrs. Elizabeth Zehren who will be teaching language arts to both our homerooms.  This year in math we will be building on previously learned mathematical concepts while introducing new content.  Science units include the scientific process, atoms and matter, rocks and minerals, and microscopes.  Social Studies looks at American history from colonial times to the establishment of the American government.  Organization plays an important role in the intermediate grades, and we will work together to create good habits that will help students to be successful in fifth grade and beyond.
         I am enjoying getting to know all my students!

Announcements

  • We are excited for a great year of learning!  A few reminders:  

    Students are encouraged to bring a morning snack, but please remember that due to allergies, we are a peanut and tree nut-free classroom.

    Water bottles are encouraged.  NC has new bottle filling stations!

    Students should be sure to wear sneakers for both gym class as well as health class.

    Please check planners daily.
