Band is a musical ensemble activity for fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students interested in playing woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments. Students can choose to learn one of the following instruments: oboe, flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, French horn, trumpet, trombone, baritone horn/tuba, and percussion (drums/xylophones.) Students will have one half-hour small group lesson each cycle throughout the school year. Instruments must be rented or bought before they begin lessons. Band students are also expected to participate in before school and after school rehearsals to prepare for concerts.
There are three bands North Coventry student can participate in:
Junior Band – This band consists of beginning band students. They perform one concert with band students from all of the other OJR Elementary Schools in the spring.
Senior Band – This band consists of second and third year band students. They perform two concerts with band students from all of the other OJR Elementary Schools in the school year; a winter concert and a spring concert.
Advanced Band – This band is an auditioned sixth grade group that rehearses after school in the second half of the school year, and perform in the spring band concert with senior band.
