The Envirothon is an environmental education competition for North Coventry Students in grades 4 - 6. Participants learn about topics such as birds, mammals, trees, fish, reptiles and amphibians, outdoor safety and this year's current issue topic of agricultural soil and water conservation.
Many teams from schools throughout Chester County will compete in the Chester County Envirothon at Hibernia County Park. Teams will be tested on their knowledge of Pennsylvania's native wildlife and forests, as well as outdoor safety and the current issue topic. A craft station and live animal program will also be part of the day.
Grade 4 - 5 Team: Mr. Zurga will be coaching the 4th and 5th grade North Coventry Envirothon team. Any 4th or 5th grade student interested in trying out for the 2017 team should stop by Mr. Zurga's room during their recess on February 1, 2 and 3. Bring a pencil. Students who make the team will be sent specific information about practice dates and the competition date.
Grade 4/5 Envirothon Team Practices are scheduled from 3:10 - 4:15 pm on the following days:
February 27, March 6, 13, 27, April 3, 10, 24 and May 1
Grade 6 Team: Mrs. Moyer-Gabbert (French Creek teacher) will be coaching the 6th grade Envirothon team. This competition is open to all 6th graders. Those participating will become a part of the OJR Middle School team made up of 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. Students wanting to participate will need to attend after school practices held on Mondays starting February 6 from 3:15 to 4:30 pm AT FRENCH CREEK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. Because there are no buses to transport students from other elementary schools, parents must provide transportation to French Creek and home. If we have parents that are willing to carpool, we will try to coordinate between those parents. The competition at Hibernia County Park is scheduled for Thursday, May 4, 2017.
