    Read Across America

CLICK HERE for more information on homework.

Reading: Next week readers will learn to monitor for meaning not only when they are solving words, but also as they read across longer, more challenging books. Readers will also learn to envision the scene as they read, making "mind movies" to picture what is happening.

Phonics: If you haven't heard...Rasheed is back!  The class shared with him all the things they learned about vowel teams, and we're not finished yet!  Next week our word builders will look at the vowel teams OY/OI, and EW/UE, that make the same sound. Then use this knowledge to figure out how to read words with these vowel teams.

Writing: Our writers will learn that people won't always share their opinions, so they'll need to back up their opinions with reasons.  We'll talk about how some writers don't actually write about the best or favorite things.  They actually write about the worst or ugliest thing.  Lastly, writers will learn that in order to be more convincing they will ask others who share their opinion, to help generate even more reasons to support their opinions.

Math:   We will begin Unit 7.  We'll be looking at Fact Families to deepen the understanding of the connection between addition and subtraction.  We will also look at how knowing double facts will help with subtraction as well.  We continue to work on explaining our thinking when solving problems.

Social Studies: We'll talk about historical African Americans.

OJREF Hoping to Raise Funds by Encouraging Online & Mail Donations on Leap Day

The Owen J. Roberts Education Foundation (OJREF), through donor’s generosity, is hoping to fund valuable mini-grants to impact the lives of Owen J. Roberts School District (OJRSD) students. To support OJRSD’s mission and vision, the OJREF would like you to take a non-traditional approach to giving by forgoing attending a pricey event and, instead, donating to the Foundation. Donations can be made at www.ojref.org

Because February 29th comes around only every four years, the OJREF is using this bonus day as a reason to be EXTRA generous. The OJREF will use the generosity to provide mini-grants to the OJRSD community for technology, library materials, musical instruments, innovative educational resources and much more.

Donations can be made at www.ojref.org or mailed to OJR Education Foundation, Attn: Non-Event Fundraiser, PO Box 127, St. Peter’s, PA 19470. If you have questions or would like more information, please contact us at chutcheson@ojref.org.

The Owen J. Roberts Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3)charity that operates independently from the district and is dedicated to encouraging community-wide participation and philanthropy to support educational innovation and the Mission of the OJRSD.
