To recognize the National School Lunch Program and the 30 million children it serves every day, food services at Owen J Roberts will recognize National School Lunch Week from October 15-18, 2018. The theme “School Lunch: Lots 2 Love,” was designed to help us tell our school lunch story and highlight what makes our cafeterias such a special place for students to visit every day. There is "Lots 2 Love" about our menus, our dining spaces and the people who prep and serve the meals.
The federally-funded National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides nutritionally balanced, healthy meals to students everyday. The program, which has been serving the nation's children for over 60 years, requires school meals to meet federal nutrition standards like offering fruits and vegetables every day, serving whole-grain rich foods, and limiting fat, calories, and sodium.
The “School Lunch: Lots 2 Love” campaign is made possible by the nonprofit School Nutrition Association. Parents and students can follow the fun via the hashtag #NSLW. For more information about schools meals, visit www.schoolnutrition.org/SchoolMeals. Call your cafeteria manager today to find out what exciting events your school cafeteria will be participating in this week.
Between preparing healthy meals for America's students, adhering to strict nutrition standards, navigating student food allergies, and offering service with a smile, school nutrition professionals are true heroes.
On Friday, May 3, 2018, we will kick off School Nutrition Employee Week (May 6 - 10) with a bang, when we celebrate the 7th Annual School Lunch Hero Day! School Lunch Hero Day is a chance to showcase the difference school nutrition professionals make for every child who comes through the cafeteria.
