Behind the Wheel
DUE TO ESCALATING COSTS, THE BEHIND THE WHEEL PROGRAM WILL NOW BE $350.00 PER STUDENT FOR COURSES BEGINNING ON OR AFTER JULY 1, 2019.
Owen J. Roberts School District will be providing Behind-the Wheel Training for students currently attending Owen J. Roberts High School.
Times: Afternoons, Evenings, Saturdays and Summer
Location: OJRHS Campus
All students who want the Behind-the-Wheel Phase of Driver Education must have a PA learner’s permit or PA driver’s license. You must also complete and pass the Classroom Phase of Driver Education. Please complete the form (on the back) and register (with payment) in the high school office. The cost of the program will cover 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training. The six one–hour sessions will lead to the road test.
The school can administer the road test to a student during the last hour of their instruction. The student must have completed the classroom instruction; had their permit for six months (students cannot get behind the wheel until their 16th birthday and cannot road test until six months later); and complete at least 65 hours of supervised practical driving (including 10 hours of nighttime driving and 5 hours of inclement weather driving) with a notarized verification form (DL-180C).
The driver education teacher will individually schedule students for their driving lessons. Lessons will be after school, evenings, Saturdays and during the summer. Please make every effort to accommodate the times the instructor has you scheduled. To cancel a scheduled appointment, the instructor should be notified 24 hours prior to the cancellation. Students cannot get behind the wheel until their 16th birthday and cannot road test until six months later. Please plan accordingly. If a student misses the lesson you may be charged for that time scheduled at a rate of $35 per hour. Please note: Failure to bring along a valid permit, license or needed eye glasses may also be considered a missed lesson and will be assessed accordingly.
Following the training, students will be issued a letter of completion for submission to insurance carriers. The program is very popular. The waiting list has increased since the school started administering the road test. Please be patient!
