Mrs. Dawn Merritt Galambos
Dawn Galambos has taught in the Owen J. Roberts School District since September of 1990. The recipient of the Alberta C. Cline Memorial Language Prize and the Cora Catherine Bitner Music Award, she graduated from Millersville University with a Bachelor of Science degree in English and Secondary Education. Mrs. Galambos holds a Level II Pennsylvania Teaching Certificate after having studied at West Chester University, Wilkes University, and Immaculata University. In May of 2009, Mrs. Galambos earned her Master's Degree in Education from Cabrini College. In addition to graduating with distinction (summa cum laude), she was inducted into Kappa Gamma Pi, the National Catholic College Graduate Honor Society.
She has taught each level of study in language arts from DI to Advanced Placement, ninth grade through twelfth grade. She is both AP and IB certified.
Mrs. Galambos has been a three-time nominee for the Disney Creativity in Teaching Award in addition to being named to Who's Who Among American High School Teachers. She is proud to have been selected by the classes of 1998 and 2011 as their yearbook dedicatee. In September of 2001, she was honored with the Teacher of the Month award by high school administration. She received the Citadel Heart of Learning Award in March of 2004, a prestigious honor sponsored by the Citadel Federal Credit Union and the Chester County Intermediate Unit.
In addition to working with students, Mrs. Galambos has served as a mentor to many novice and veteran educators as well as a cooperating instructor for a student teacher. She has also served as a mentor teacher for the Chester County Intermediate Unit's Teacher Academy. Mrs. Galambos is a member of the Technology Leadership Team and a liaison for the Congressional Page Program. She has also served on a number of committees, including the architectural design team for the standard classroom (chairperson), the principal selection committee in 2002, and the Steering Committee for the Middle States Association Visitation in 2003. Mrs. Galambos has also served as the Department Chair for the High School English/Language Arts Department for the past seven years.
Mrs. Galambos is honored to have worked with students in a number of extra-curricular activities. They have included assisting in the annual musical, advising the student newspaper, advising the literary magazine, directing the annual student/faculty talent show, directing the annual Shakespeare Competition at Immaculata University, performing in faculty shows, serving as a guest vocalist for a number of school functions, advising the Improv Club, and emceeing both the prom fashion show as well as the promenade, both of which have aired on television, for the past seventeen years. Mrs. Galambos has directed the annual fall drama for the past twenty five years, and her productions have included the following: Liliom, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court, Lost in Yonkers, The Crucible, Pygmalion, Les Miserables, A Christmas Carol, Stage Door, Our Town, Cocktails with Mimi, Telling Wilde Tales, The Canterville Ghost, Down to Earth, Great Expectations, Lost in Yonkers (reprise), A Night of One Acts, a collection of original dramas written by the students of Owen J. Roberts High School, Arsenic and Old Lace, Fools, The Turn of the Screw, Anne of Green Gables, Bull in a China Shop, Splendor in the Grass, Harvey, You Can't Take It With You, The Miracle Worker,Telling Wilde Tales (reprise), The Crucible (reprise), and this year's Macbeth.
Outside of school, Mrs. Galambos is a private tutor. She has also served as a guest speaker at Immaculata University in graduate-level education classes. She lives in the district with her husband, Stephen, and her son, Alexander, a graduate of Owen J. Roberts, Temple University, and Immaculata University.
